Holy Week Devotional
March 28-April 4
This Easter, we are celebrating Holy Week together with a devotional and activities for each day of the week including Good Friday.
DOWNLOAD THE HOLY WEEK DEVOTIONAL HERE!
Holy Week bags are still available for pick up this week at our Newburgh Campus during regular office hours.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SPENDING THIS WEEK WITH YOU!
We believe that the Holy Week Devotional experience can be a strong discipleship tool, as it encourages individuals and families to take time each day to be with God, be with others, and work to spread the Good News in very practical ways (be sent.)
We want the Easter Holy Week celebration to encourage our families and friends to pause, thoughtfully remember, and celebrate each day of the week culminating in Easter Sunday!
PRAY WITH US
Palm Sunday
Father, thank you for sending your Son to rescue us and to give us life. Thank you that you make all things new through Jesus. And Jesus, we worship you as our Savior and as our King. We bow before you and proclaim that you are King of our lives, King over every power, and King of all creation. Today, we will not listen to the voice of the crowds, but will seek after you alone. The rocks will not have to cry out, because we will never stop declaring, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Holy Monday
Father, we are thankful that you love all people. We know you want us to produce the fruit of loving others. When Jesus saw people more concerned about money than about honoring the part of the temple that was reserved for people of other nations to worship you, it broke his heart. Help us see people around us the way you see them, and help us to love them the way you love them.
Holy Tuesday
Father, faith is hard some days. We can so easily get caught up in what we can see that we miss the ways you are at work each and every day. Help us overcome our unbelief and place our trust completely in you. Give us the faith to pray boldly to see you move in ways that are consistent with who you are. Father, thank you for forgiving us! Give us eyes to see when we are withholding forgiveness from those around us - and give us the faith to forgive.
Silent Wednesday
Jesus, we tremble to think that it was one of your friends who betrayed you. It was someone you loved, someone you taught, and someone you had shared a meal with many times. Today, we will have opportunities to decide whether we will walk closely by your side or go our own way. We also tremble when we realize that each time we have stepped away from you was also a kind of betrayal. But even on our worst days, you are always faithful. You are always forgiving. And you always welcome us back to your side. Thank you.
Maundy Thursday
Jesus, on the night before you went to the cross, you washed your friends’ feet. You knew what you were about to go through, but you knelt and washed their feet. Jesus, prepare our hearts to serve as you served. May we follow the example of tenderness and humility you provided as you washed the feet of those who followed you. Help us to remember your command to love as you loved us. And when we live like you and love like you, the world will know we are your disciples.
Good Friday
Dear Father, today we remember the pain and suffering of the cross and all that Jesus was willing to endure so that we could be set free. Thank you that Jesus came so that we could have life to the full. We are overwhelmed that you knew, on the day he was born, that his future was the cross. Every step he took, was a step toward the cross. This was the greatest act of love in all of history. Help us never to take for granted what Jesus did for us. Help us to take up our own cross and follow Jesus.
Holy Saturday
Father, on the Sabbath, Jesus had finished his work. Some were glad they had accomplished his death. Others were experiencing extreme sadness. But both groups believed that it was all over. Jesus was dead and buried. But as a seed dies when it is planted in the ground, it doesn’t decay, but springs up to new life. Teach us to trust in you when everything seems hopeless. Remind us that you are with us, even when we feel alone. Father, we praise you that through Jesus, you are making all things new. And we worship you because of what will happen tomorrow on Resurrection Sunday!
